Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic injection approved by the FDA to reduce the severity of deep-set wrinkles across your browline and crow’s feet around your eyes — all without surgery.

Botox is made from a purified form of botulinum toxin. The prescription injectable relaxes the dynamic muscles in your face responsible for deep wrinkles and lines, tightening the skin and smoothing out your complexion.

Dr. Koch may also use the injectable to reduce the visibility of bands around your neck as well as scrunching of the chin. He is highly skilled in Botox therapy and was one of the first physicians in the United States to use Botox for cosmetic wrinkle reduction.

Dr. Koch can determine if you’re a candidate for Botox by evaluating the health of your skin. He also discusses your expectations for Botox injections and your overall aesthetic goals.

What happens during Botox injections?

Botox smooths lines and wrinkles to give you a more youthful look by targeting the repeated muscle contractions that cause the skin to crease and create your crow’s feet and frown lines.

Dr. Koch injects specific amounts of Botox into your browline and the areas around your eyes. The medication works by blocking the signal from the nerve that otherwise would tell the muscle to contract, therefore relaxing the muscle.

To keep you comfortable during your injections, Dr. Koch can apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. You can expect to resume your usual activities immediately after your Botox treatment is complete.

Dr. Koch recommends that you avoid strenuous exercise for at least two hours after the procedure and that you do not rub or massage the treatment area.

How long do the results of Botox last?

You should be able to see a significant difference in the treatment area immediately after your injections. However, it can take up to a week to see the maximum benefit of Botox therapy.

The results of Botox can last 3-4 months. Dr. Koch can also recommend maintenance injections to help you retain your results in the long term.

Because Dr. Koch personalizes a treatment plan to your unique needs, you can expect your results to look and feel natural.
